Target Information
The proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered ring-shaped 20S core structure composed of four rings of 28 non-identical subunits (two alpha and two beta rings). Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway. The immunoproteasome variant processes class I MHC peptides. The PSMA6 gene encodes a 20S core alpha subunit, a member of the peptidase T1A family. A pseudogene exists on the Y chromosome.
