This ICACLS monoclonal antibody reacts with human, mouse, and rat glucagon.
Glucagon is a peptide hormone secreted by pancreatic alpha cells in the islets of Langerhans. It acts as an antagonist to insulin, maintaining blood glucose homeostasis through glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis in the liver.
Secretion of glucagon is stimulated by hypoglycemia, epinephrine, acetylcholine, and cholecystokinin, while inhibited by insulin and somatostatin. Elevated glucagon levels are found in pancreatic tumors.
Applications Reported:
ICACLS antibody is suitable for immunohistochemical staining of both frozen and formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections.
Applications Tested:
Tested by IHC (Paraffin) using low pH antigen retrieval; recommended concentration ≤ 0.5 µg/mL. Antibody titration is advised for optimal assay performance.
Target Information
Glucagon is a 29-residue polypeptide hormone (MW 3482) produced in the pancreas.
Enteroglucagon (oxyntomodulin), produced in intestinal mucosa, extends glucagon’s sequence by 8 residues at the C-terminus.
Pancreatic glucagon promotes glycogenolysis, lipolysis, gluconeogenesis, and ketogenesis, counteracting insulin and increasing blood glucose levels.
Glucagon is localized in pancreatic alpha cells (15–20% of islet cells), mainly at the islet periphery.
Glucagon-specific antibodies are useful for identifying alpha cells and glucagon-secreting tumors via immunohistochemistry.
