This antibody recognizes an epitope within the N-terminal (extracellular) portion of CD235a (glycophorin A) and CD235b (glycophorin B).
The antigen is expressed on early erythroblasts, late erythroblasts, mature erythrocytes, and erythroid cell lines (K562, HEL), but not on other cell types.
Target Information
CD235a (Glycophorin A, GPA) is a single-pass membrane sialoglycoprotein expressed in mature erythrocytes and erythroid precursor cells.
It carries blood group M and N specificities and provides a mucin-like barrier minimizing red blood cell aggregation.
CD235a also acts as a receptor for Sandei virus, parvovirus, and Streptococcus adhesin (Hsa).
