Target Information
AMPK beta-1 is a regulatory subunit of the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), a heterotrimeric enzyme composed of an alpha catalytic subunit and non-catalytic beta and gamma subunits.
AMPK functions as an energy-sensing enzyme that responds to cellular metabolic stress by phosphorylating and inactivating key enzymes such as acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) and HMG-CoA reductase (HMGCR), which regulate fatty acid and cholesterol biosynthesis.
This beta-1 subunit may act as a positive regulator of AMPK activity and serve as an adaptor molecule mediating complex assembly. Myristoylation and phosphorylation of this subunit influence AMPK activity and localization.
