This antibody detects endogenous levels of Smad1/5/9 only when phosphorylated at Ser463 and Ser465.
Target Information
The SMAD1/SMAD5/SMAD8/SMAD9 proteins belong to the SMAD family, which are signal transducers and transcriptional modulators mediating multiple signaling pathways. These proteins mediate bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signals involved in cell growth, apoptosis, morphogenesis, development, and immune responses. Upon BMP ligand binding, SMAD1/5/9 are phosphorylated and activated by BMP receptor kinases, forming complexes with SMAD4 for transcriptional regulation. They are targets for SMAD-specific E3 ubiquitin ligases such as SMURF1 and SMURF2, leading to ubiquitination and proteasome-mediated degradation. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been observed.
