Target Information

The Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome (WAS) family of proteins share similar domain structures and are involved in transduction of signals from receptors on the cell surface to the actin cytoskeleton. These proteins are regulated by multiple stimuli and interact with various other proteins. Studies show that they associate with the small GTPase Cdc42, which regulates actin filament formation, and the cytoskeletal organizing complex Arp2/3. The WASL gene product, homologous to WAS protein, is ubiquitously expressed and most highly in neural tissues, binding directly to Cdc42 and inducing formation of long actin microspikes.
