Product Specific Information

This antibody reacts with an extracellular epitope of CD86 (B7-2), a 70 kDa type I transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is expressed on professional antigen-presenting cells such as dendritic cells, macrophages, and activated B lymphocytes.

Target Information

CD86 is one of two ligands (the other being CD80) for CTLA4 and CD28. It acts as a costimulatory molecule essential for T-cell activation during antigen presentation. Insufficient co-stimulation involving CD86/CD80 can lead to immune tolerance. CD86 is a type I membrane protein expressed by antigen-presenting cells and serves as a ligand for CD28 and CTLA4 on T cells. Binding to CD28 provides a stimulatory signal for T-cell activation, while binding to CTLA4 inhibits activation and reduces immune responses. Alternative splicing produces multiple isoforms of CD86. Dysregulation of CD86 has been associated with diseases such as gallbladder squamous cell carcinoma and myocarditis.
