Target Information
This gene encodes one of two cannabinoid receptors. Cannabinoids, including delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol and synthetic analogs, are psychoactive components of marijuana. The cannabinoid receptors belong to the G protein-coupled receptor family, inhibiting adenylate cyclase activity in a dose-dependent, stereoselective, and pertussis toxin-sensitive manner. These receptors mediate the CNS effects of cannabinoids. Multiple transcript variants encoding two isoforms have been described.
