Description:
The OKT3 monoclonal antibody recognizes an epitope on the epsilon-subunit within the human CD3 complex. It exhibits potent immunosuppressive properties in vivo and has been used effectively in the treatment of renal, heart, and liver allograft rejection. CD3 subunits (gamma, delta, epsilon) are essential for TCR complex assembly and expression. CD3 is expressed by thymocytes and all mature T cells. Crosslinking of TCR initiates intracellular signaling leading to activation and proliferation.

Target Information
CD3 complex transduces antigen-recognition signals into T cells and regulates TCR surface expression. It includes subunits CD3γ, CD3δ, CD3ε, and CD3ζ, encoded on chromosome 11. These subunits associate with cytoplasmic signal transduction molecules via tyrosine-based motifs. CD3 is expressed on most T lymphocytes and thymocytes but not on B or NK cells. Defects in CD3 genes can cause immunodeficiency.
