Product Specific Information

This antibody is predicted to react with canine, mouse, porcine, and rat based on sequence homology.
Heat-mediated antigen retrieval is recommended prior to staining, using a 10 mM citrate buffer (pH 6.0) for 10 minutes followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Following antigen retrieval, incubate samples with primary antibody for 10 minutes at room temperature.
A suggested positive control is prostate carcinoma.

Target Information

The androgen receptor (AR) is a member of the steroid-hormone receptor superfamily of nuclear receptors.
It is a ligand-activated transcription factor that binds active testosterone (T) and dihydrotestosterone (DHT).
Upon ligand binding, the receptor dissociates from accessory proteins, translocates into the nucleus, dimerizes, and stimulates transcription of androgen-responsive genes.
AR signaling plays a key role in the development and function of male reproductive organs such as the prostate and epididymis, and also affects nonreproductive tissues like muscle, hair follicles, and brain.
Abnormalities in AR signaling are linked to diseases including prostate cancer, Kennedy’s disease, and male infertility.
Mutations in the AR gene are associated with complete androgen insensitivity (CAIS).
