Product Specific Information
This antibody is predicted to react with mouse and rat based on sequence homology.
Heat-mediated antigen retrieval is recommended prior to staining, using a 10 mM citrate buffer (pH 6.0) for 10 minutes followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Following antigen retrieval, incubate samples with primary antibody for 10 minutes at room temperature.
A suggested positive control is colon carcinoma.
Target Information
BCL-XL is a part of the BCL-2 protein family. Members of this family form hetero- or homodimers and act as anti- or pro-apoptotic regulators involved in various cellular activities.
BCL-XL is located at the outer mitochondrial membrane and regulates outer mitochondrial membrane channel (VDAC) opening.
VDAC controls mitochondrial membrane potential and the production of reactive oxygen species and release of cytochrome C, both potent inducers of apoptosis.
Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encode distinct isoforms: the longer isoform acts as an apoptotic inhibitor, while the shorter form acts as an apoptotic activator.
