Target Information

TRPM6 is predominantly expressed in the kidney and colon, and encodes a protein containing an ion channel domain and a protein kinase domain.
TRPM6 is crucial for magnesium homeostasis and plays an essential role in epithelial magnesium transport and active magnesium absorption in the gut and kidney.
Isoforms of the type M6-kinase lack the ion channel region. Mutations in TRPM6 are associated with hypomagnesemia with secondary hypocalcemia.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been noted for this gene.
TRPC7 is thought to form a receptor-activated non-selective calcium permeant cation channel, operated by phosphatidylinositol second messenger systems activated by receptor tyrosine kinases or G-protein coupled receptors.
TRPC7 is also activated by diacylglycerol (DAG) and may be activated by intracellular calcium store depletion.
