Target Information
TRPM6 is predominantly expressed in the kidney and colon, encoding a protein with both ion channel and protein kinase domains. It is essential for magnesium homeostasis and plays a critical role in epithelial magnesium transport and active magnesium absorption in the gut and kidney.
Mutations in TRPM6 are associated with hypomagnesemia with secondary hypocalcemia.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been reported.
TRPC7 is thought to form a receptor-activated, non-selective calcium-permeant cation channel, operated by phosphatidylinositol second messenger systems activated by receptor tyrosine kinases or G-protein coupled receptors, and may also be activated by diacylglycerol (DAG) or intracellular calcium store depletion.
