Target Information

The proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered ring-shaped 20S core structure. The core structure consists of four rings of 28 non-identical subunits; two rings are composed of seven alpha subunits and two rings of seven beta subunits. Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent process in a non-lysosomal pathway.
The immunoproteasome, a modified form, processes class I MHC peptides. The PSMA3 gene encodes a 20S core alpha subunit of the peptidase T1A family, with two alternative transcripts identified.
