SLC25A22 (solute carrier family 25) is a glutamate carrier present in the mitochondria. It shows predominant expression in the developing brain and belongs to the SLC25 family of mitochondrial transporters. The gene is localized to human chromosome 11p15.5. The encoded protein consists of 323 amino acids and is expressed not only in the brain but also in the pancreas, heart, lung, liver, testis, kidney, small intestine, and spleen. The molecular weight is approximately 32.8 kDa.
