Target Information
The PDX1 protein is a transcriptional activator regulating genes such as insulin, somatostatin, glucokinase, islet amyloid polypeptide, and glucose transporter type 2. This nuclear protein is essential for early pancreatic development and plays a key role in glucose-dependent regulation of insulin gene expression. Mutations in this gene can cause pancreatic agenesis, leading to early-onset insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) and maturity-onset diabetes of the young type 4 (MODY4).
