Target Information
GRK7 is a serine/threonine kinase specifically expressed in the retina. It phosphorylates cone opsins and initiates their deactivation.
Protein kinases transfer a phosphate group from ATP to substrate proteins, mediating signal transduction and regulating cellular processes such as metabolism, transcription, cell cycle progression, cytoskeletal rearrangement, apoptosis, and differentiation.
The protein kinase family includes over 500 gene products and is classified into 8 major groups based on catalytic domain sequences.
Tyrosine kinase (TK) groups regulate cell-cell interactions, including differentiation, adhesion, motility, and death. There are about 90 TK genes, including receptor TKs (EGFR, EPH, FGFR, PDGFR, TRK, VEGFR) and cytosolic TKs (ABL, FAK, JAK, SRC).
