Target Information
The OPRM1 gene encodes the μ-opioid receptor, the primary site of action for commonly used opioids such as morphine, heroin, fentanyl, and methadone.
It also binds endogenous opioid peptides including beta-endorphin and enkephalins.
This receptor belongs to the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family and is one of three major opioid receptor types: μ (mu), κ (kappa), and δ (delta), each with distinct pharmacologic profiles.
