Product Specific Information

The GK1.5 monoclonal antibody reacts with the mouse CD4 molecule, a 55 kDa cell surface receptor expressed by most thymocytes, a subpopulation of mature T cells, and dendritic cells. CD4 binds to MHC class II on antigen-presenting cells and plays a key role in T cell development and activation. In T cells, CD4 associates with protein tyrosine kinase p56lck via its cytoplasmic tail. Binding of GK1.5 is blocked by RM4-5.

Applications Tested: Tested on mouse thymocytes and splenocytes at ≤0.06 µg/test (100 µL final volume). Optimal titration recommended.

Target Information

CD4 antigen is involved in recognition of MHC class II molecules and acts as a co-receptor for HIV. It is primarily expressed in T helper cells, but also in monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. CD4 expression is observed in thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain non-lymphoid tissues such as brain and gut. CD4 contributes to T-cell activation via association with the T-cell receptor complex and Lck kinase. It may also mediate neuronal damage in immune-mediated CNS diseases. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
