Syntaphilin은 Syntaxin-1의 C-말단 영역과 상호작용하는 단백질로, SNARE 복합체 형성을 억제하여 시냅스 소포의 방출을 조절합니다. 또한 dynamin-1과 결합하여 dynamin 의존적 엔도사이토시스를 억제합니다. Syntaphilin 결핍 마우스는 미토콘드리아 이동성이 증가하고 축삭 내 미토콘드리아 밀도가 감소하며, 운동 능력 저하와 단기적 시냅스 강화 증가를 보입니다. 여러 isoform이 존재합니다.
