The monoclonal antibody eBioP4D1 (P4D1) recognizes ubiquitin, a small 8 kDa protein. Ubiquitin units are attached to proteins via ubiquitination, signaling them for degradation by the 26S proteasome. This process is involved in differentiation, cell cycle progression, apoptosis, and disease development. For instance, Lewy bodies in Parkinson’s disease patients are rich in ubiquitin.
Applications Reported: Suitable for immunoprecipitation, immunoblotting (WB), and immunohistochemical staining.
Applications Tested: Validated in immunoblotting of treated cell lines at ≤2 µg/mL. Antibody titration is recommended for optimal assay performance.

Target Information
Ubiquitin is a highly conserved protein that targets cellular proteins for degradation via the 26S proteasome. It is synthesized as a precursor protein forming polyubiquitin chains or as a single ubiquitin fused to another protein.
This gene encodes a fusion protein with ubiquitin at the N-terminus and ribosomal protein S27a at the C-terminus. In yeast, post-translational processing generates free ubiquitin monomer and ribosomal protein S27a, a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit containing C4-type zinc finger domains.
Pseudogenes of this gene exist in the genome. Similarly, ribosomal proteins L40 and S30 are synthesized as fusion proteins with ubiquitin or ubiquitin-like proteins. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same proteins have been identified.
