Target Information
The protein encoded by BAD is a member of the BCL-2 family, known to regulate programmed cell death.
This protein promotes apoptosis by forming heterodimers with BCL-xL and BCL-2, reversing their anti-apoptotic function.
Its proapoptotic activity is regulated through phosphorylation, influenced by kinases such as AKT and MAP kinase, and phosphatase calcineurin.
Alternative splicing results in two transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
