Target Information
CCR8 encodes a member of the beta chemokine receptor family, predicted to be a seven transmembrane protein similar to G protein-coupled receptors.
Chemokines and their receptors are important for migration of various cell types into inflammatory sites.
This receptor is preferentially expressed in the thymus.
Known ligands include I-309, thymus activation-regulated cytokine (TARC), and macrophage inflammatory protein-1 beta (MIP1β).
CCR8 may regulate monocyte chemotaxis and thymic cell apoptosis, contributing to proper positioning of activated T cells within antigenic challenge sites and lymphoid tissues.
Expression has been reported in spleen, thymus, natural killer cells, monocytes, and T cells, with lower levels in peripheral blood leukocytes.
