Target Information
Transthyretin (TTR), also known as prealbumin, is a plasma protein that functions as a transporter of thyroxine and retinal-binding protein. It is primarily synthesized in the liver and secreted into plasma. TTR constitutes approximately 25% of CSF protein, suggesting selective transport across the blood-CSF barrier or synthesis within the CNS. It is found in neuritic plaques, neurofibrillary tangles, and microangiopathic lesions associated with cerebral amyloidosis. Over 40 mutations in the TTR gene have been linked to amyloid deposition.
