Target Information
Isocitrate dehydrogenases catalyze the oxidative decarboxylation of isocitrate to 2-oxoglutarate. These enzymes belong to two distinct subclasses: one utilizing NAD and the other NADP as electron acceptors.
Five isocitrate dehydrogenases have been reported:
- Three NAD-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenases (mitochondrial matrix)
- Two NADP-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenases (one mitochondrial, one cytosolic)
The IDH2 gene encodes the NADP-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenase found in mitochondria, playing a role in intermediary metabolism and energy production. This protein may interact with the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex.
