Target Information
GADD153 is a small nuclear protein capable of dimerizing with transcription factors C/EBP alpha and beta. Once dimerized, the complex inhibits the normal binding and function of C/EBP to classical binding sites. Conversely, the C/EBP–GADD153 dimer gains binding activity to non-classical C/EBP stress-related targets. Under normal conditions, GADD153 expression is minimal but becomes highly upregulated under cellular or ER stress such as tunicamycin treatment, nutrient starvation, or exposure to reducing agents that disrupt calcium flux across the ER membrane.
