Target Information
DNA-binding protein SATB2 binds to DNA at the nuclear matrix- or scaffold-associated regions and recognizes the sugar-phosphate structure of double-stranded DNA.
SATB2 functions as a transcription factor regulating nuclear gene expression by binding to matrix attachment regions (MARs) and remodeling chromatin loops.
It serves as a docking site for chromatin remodeling enzymes by recruiting HDACs or HATs to promoters and enhancers.
SATB2 plays a key role in cortical neuron differentiation, repressing Ctip2 and regulating corticocortical connections.
Mutations are associated with cleft palate isolated (CPI).
