Target Information
Metadherin (Metastasis adhesion protein), also known as MTDH or LYRIC, is a novel protein that localizes with tight junction proteins ZO-1 and occludin in polarized epithelial cells. It is recruited during tight junction maturation rather than serving as a structural component. Metadherin is overexpressed in breast cancer tissue and xenografts but expressed at lower levels in normal breast tissue. It binds to lung vasculature via a C-terminal extracellular domain segment; blocking this domain with antibodies or siRNA can inhibit breast cancer metastasis.
