Target Information
Metadherin (Metastasis adhesion protein), also known as MTDH or LYRIC, is a novel protein localized with tight junction proteins ZO-1 and occludin in polarized epithelial cells. It participates in tight junction maturation rather than serving as a structural component.
Metadherin is overexpressed in breast cancer tissue and xenografts, with lower expression in normal breast tissue. It binds to lung vasculature through a C-terminal extracellular domain segment. Blocking this domain with antibodies or inhibiting Metadherin via siRNA has been reported to suppress breast cancer metastasis.
