Product Specific Information

MA1-40186 detects C9 from human samples.
It has been successfully used in flow cytometry, ELISA, functional assays, Western blot, and immunohistochemistry (paraffin and frozen) applications.
The immunogen corresponds to the C-terminal region of human C9.
Endotoxin level: <24 EU/mg.

Target Information

C5b-9 membrane attack complexes are assembled from five precursor molecules in the serum. Proteolytic cleavage of C5 by C5 convertase generates C5b, which initiates assembly of the C5b-9 complex. The final step involves polymerization of C9, leading to insertion of the complex into the cell membrane.
During formation of C5b-8 and C9 polymerization, unique neoantigens are generated that are not present on native components. Complement regulatory proteins CD59 and complement S-protein can prevent C5b-9 insertion into membranes.
The soluble SC5b-9 complex is cytolytically inactive. C5b-9 contributes to chronic proteinuric renal disease progression by mediating continuous tubulointerstitial damage. Early injury in the remnant kidney can be improved when C5b-9 formation is inhibited.
