Target Information

Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a major inhibitory neurotransmitter distributed throughout the central nervous system. It is synthesized by the decarboxylation of glutamate and functions through two receptor types: GABA-A and GABA-B.
Binding of GABA to GABA-A receptors increases chloride ion influx, leading to inhibition of neuronal signaling. Insufficient GABA activity can cause uncontrolled neuronal excitation, resulting in blackouts, convulsions, seizures, and epilepsy.
