Target Information

ATP6V1B2 encodes a component of vacuolar ATPase (V-ATPase), a multisubunit enzyme that mediates acidification of eukaryotic intracellular organelles.
V-ATPase dependent organelle acidification is essential for intracellular processes such as:

  • Protein sorting
  • Zymogen activation
  • Receptor-mediated endocytosis
  • Synaptic vesicle proton gradient generation

V-ATPase consists of two domains:

  • V1 domain: Cytosolic, contains ATP catalytic site, composed of A, B, G subunits plus C, D, E, F, H subunits
  • V0 domain: Transmembrane domain

The ATP6V1B2 gene encodes one of two V1 domain B subunit isoforms, with this isoform being highly expressed in osteoclasts.
