Target Information
In eukaryotic cells, the nuclear envelope consists of inner and outer membranes defining the border between the nucleus and cytoplasm. These membranes are joined by nuclear pore complexes that regulate molecular exchange. The inner membrane is supported by the nuclear lamina made of lamins. Lamins attach to the inner nuclear membrane via Lamin Associated Polypeptides (LAPs). LAP1A/B/C share high homology, while LAP2 is distinct. LAP1A/B bind lamins A, C, and B1; LAP2 binds lamin B1 only. LAP2 also binds chromosomes, and phosphorylation during mitosis inhibits these interactions, indicating its role in nuclear envelope reassembly.
