Target Information
Anti-sperm antibodies have been associated with unexplained infertility, suggesting their role in blocking fertilization. Identification and characterization of sperm antigens like SPAG1 are crucial for understanding immunologic infertility and developing targeted contraceptives. The SPAG1 protein localizes to the plasma membrane of germ cells and mature spermatozoa, binds GTP, and exhibits GTPase activity, indicating a potential role in GTP signal transduction during spermatogenesis and fertilization. Two transcript variants of this gene encode the same protein.
