Product Specific Information

The 1D6 monoclonal antibody reacts with human BLyS (B lymphocyte stimulator), also known as BAFF. BLyS is a type II membrane protein that exists in both membrane-bound and soluble forms. Expression on monocytes is regulated by IFN-γ. BLyS acts as a potent B cell growth factor and costimulator of immunoglobulin production.
BLyS transgenic mice develop severe B cell hyperplasia and lupus-like autoimmune disease, indicating its role in human autoimmune conditions.
Known receptors include BCMA, TACI, and BR3. BLyS and APRIL can form active heterotrimers found in serum of patients with systemic immune-based rheumatic diseases.

Applications Reported:

• Flow cytometric analysis of human BLyS-transfected cells.

Applications Tested:

• Pre-titrated for flow cytometry at 5 µL (0.5 µg)/test.
• A test is defined as staining a sample in 100 µL final volume.
• Cell number: 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test.

Target Information

BAFF is a membrane-bound cytokine expressed by B cell lineage cells. The soluble form binds to TNFRSF13B/TACI, TNFRSF17/BCMA, and TNFRSF13C/BAFFR receptors. It is a potent B cell activator essential for proliferation and differentiation.
BAFF is also expressed by T lymphocytes, promoting activation and survival.
Alternative spliced and glycosylated isoforms have been identified.
