Target Information
The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered structure composed of two complexes: a 20S core and a 19S regulator.
- The 20S core consists of four rings of 28 non-identical subunits (two alpha and two beta rings).
- The 19S regulator includes a base (with 6 ATPase and 2 non-ATPase subunits) and a lid (up to 10 non-ATPase subunits).
Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway.
The immunoproteasome variant processes class I MHC peptides.
This gene encodes a non-ATPase subunit of the 19S regulator. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described, and pseudogenes exist on chromosomes 3 and 20.
