Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with the extracellular (N-terminal) domain of standard CD44 (Phagocyte glycoprotein 1), an 80–95 kDa transmembrane glycoprotein (hyaladherin family) present on most cells and tissues such as leukocytes, endothelial cells, and mesenchymal cells. It is negative on platelets and hepatocytes.
Target Information
CD44 is a 100 kDa type I transmembrane glycoprotein widely expressed on human leukocytes, brain white matter, and certain epithelial cells. It serves as a receptor for hyaluronic acid (HA) and plays roles in cell adhesion, migration, and signaling.
CD44 expression can be upregulated in carcinomas and may correlate with metastatic potential. Isoform diversity arises from complex alternative splicing.
Diseases associated with CD44 dysfunction include superficial keratitis and lichen sclerosus. CD44 may also be related to tumor metastasis formation.
