Target Information
Mammalian mitochondrial ribosomal proteins are encoded by nuclear genes and assist in mitochondrial protein synthesis. Mitoribosomes consist of a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit, with approximately 75% protein to rRNA composition. Unlike prokaryotic ribosomes, mammalian mitoribosomes lack a 5S rRNA. The DAP3 gene encodes a 28S subunit protein involved in apoptotic pathways initiated by TNF-α, Fas ligand, and IFN-γ. It may bind ATP/GTP and interact with mitoribosomal protein S27. Splice variants differ in the 5′ UTR but encode the same protein. Pseudogenes exist on chromosomes 1q and 2q.
