FBXW7는 약 40개의 아미노산으로 구성된 F-box 모티프를 가진 F-box 단백질 계열에 속합니다. 이 단백질들은 SCF(SKP1-cullin-F-box) 복합체의 하위 단위로 작용하며, 인산화 의존적 유비퀴틴화에 관여합니다.
F-box 단백질은 다음 3가지로 분류됩니다:
- Fbws: WD-40 도메인 포함
- Fbls: 류신 반복 서열 포함
- Fbxs: 기타 단백질-단백질 상호작용 모듈 또는 인식 가능한 모티프 없음
FBXW7는 Fbws 클래스에 속하며, F-box와 7개의 WD40 반복을 포함합니다. Cyclin E에 직접 결합하여 유비퀴틴 매개 분해를 유도하며, 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 난소암 및 유방암 세포주에서 발견되어 암 발생과 관련이 있을 가능성이 있습니다. 다양한 전사 변이체가 보고되어 있습니다.
