Antibody detects endogenous levels of total CD2.
Target Information
CD2 (LFA-2) is a monomeric surface antigen (MW 45–58 kDa) expressed on human T-lymphocytes, present on more than 95% of thymocytes and some natural killer cells, but not on B lymphocytes. It mediates adhesion between T cells and antigen-presenting cells through interaction with CD58. CD2 expression increases upon T cell activation, enhancing cell-cell contact and adhesion. CD2 deficiency can reduce intestinal inflammation and influence infection control. Disorders associated with CD2 dysfunction include penis squamous cell carcinoma and immune deficiency due to thymus absence.
