Product Specific Information
The OKT3 monoclonal antibody reacts with an epitope on the epsilon-subunit within the human CD3 complex. It has potent immunosuppressive properties and has been effective in treating renal, heart, and liver allograft rejection.
CD3 subunits (gamma, delta, epsilon) are essential for TCR complex assembly and surface expression. CD3 is expressed by thymocytes and mature T cells. Crosslinking of TCR initiates intracellular activation and proliferation pathways.

Target Information
The CD3 complex transduces antigen-recognition signals in T cells and regulates TCR surface expression. CD3 subunits (gamma, delta, epsilon, zeta) are structurally related immunoglobulin family members encoded on human chromosome 11.
These subunits associate with signal transduction molecules via tyrosine-based motifs. CD3 may influence TCR-induced growth arrest, survival, and proliferation.
CD3 antigen is expressed on:
- 68–82% of peripheral blood lymphocytes
- 65–85% of thymocytes
- Purkinje cells in the cerebellum
Not expressed on B or NK cells.
Defects in CD3 genes are linked to CD3 immunodeficiency.
