Product Specific Information
The OKT4 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD4, a 59 kDa cell surface glycoprotein expressed by the majority of thymocytes, a subpopulation of mature T cells (T-helper cells), and at low levels on monocytes. CD4 acts as a receptor for the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The OKT4 antibody recognizes a different epitope than the RPA-T4 monoclonal antibody, and these antibodies do not cross-block binding to each other’s respective epitopes.
Applications Reported: Flow cytometric analysis
Applications Tested: Pre-titrated and tested by flow cytometric analysis of normal human peripheral blood cells. Recommended usage is 5 µL (0.25 µg) per test in a final volume of 100 µL. Cell number may range from 10⁵ to 10⁸ cells/test.

Target Information
The CD4 antigen is involved in the recognition of MHC class II molecules and serves as a co-receptor for HIV. It is primarily expressed on T-helper cells, but also found on monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. CD4 expression is observed in thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain regions of the brain and gut. CD4 plays a key role in T-cell activation through interaction with the T-cell receptor complex and protein tyrosine kinase Lck. It may also mediate neuronal damage in immune-related diseases of the central nervous system. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
