Target Information
G protein-coupled receptors (GPRs) are a family of transmembrane receptors that transmit extracellular signals (ligand binding) into intracellular signals (G protein activation). GPR signaling is an evolutionarily conserved mechanism in eukaryotes for sensing environmental stimuli and mediating cell-cell communication.
All receptors have seven membrane-spanning domains, and their extracellular regions may be glycosylated. Two conserved cysteine residues form disulfide bonds to stabilize the receptor structure.
GPR103 is a 455 amino acid protein highly expressed in the brain, retina, trigeminal ganglion, hypothalamus, and vestibular nucleus. In peripheral tissues, expression is limited to the heart, kidney, and testis. GPR103 may regulate adrenal function. The hypothalamic neuropeptide 26RFa acts as an endogenous ligand for GPR103.
