Target Information
G protein-coupled receptors (GPRs) are a family of transmembrane receptors that transmit extracellular signals (ligand binding) into intracellular signals (G protein activation). This signaling mechanism is used by eukaryotes to sense environmental stimuli and mediate cell-cell communication.
All GPRs have seven membrane-spanning domains; extracellular regions may be glycosylated and contain conserved cysteine residues forming disulfide bonds for structural stability.
GPR103 is a 455 amino acid protein highly expressed in the brain, retina, trigeminal ganglion, hypothalamus, and vestibular nucleus. In peripheral tissues, it is expressed in the heart, kidney, and testis, and may regulate adrenal function. The hypothalamic neuropeptide 26RFa acts as an endogenous ligand for GPR103.
