Target Information
The ATP1A1 gene encodes the alpha 1 subunit of the Na⁺/K⁺-ATPase, a P-type cation transport ATPase responsible for maintaining sodium and potassium ion gradients across the plasma membrane. These gradients are crucial for osmoregulation, sodium-coupled transport, and electrical excitability of nerve and muscle cells. The enzyme consists of a large catalytic alpha subunit and a smaller glycoprotein beta subunit. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
