Target Information

Glutathione peroxidases (Gpxs) are ubiquitously expressed proteins that catalyze the reduction of hydrogen peroxides and organic hydroperoxides by glutathione.
There are several isoforms differing in structure and localization:

• GPx1 (cGPx): Classical cytosolic/mitochondrial, selenium-dependent enzyme.
• GPx2 (GI-GPx): Expressed in gastrointestinal tract epithelium.
• GPx3 (pGPx): Extracellular plasma form, mainly expressed by kidney.
• GPx4 (PH-GPx): Reduces hydroperoxides in membranes and lipoproteins.
• Other isoforms include cysteine-containing GPx3 and epididymis-specific GPx5.
