Target Information
PCNA (Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen) is essential for DNA replication and is involved in DNA excision and mismatch repair pathways.
It binds to CDK inhibitor p21, structure-specific endonucleases Fen1 and XPG, and DNA cytosine 5-methyltransferase (MCMT).
PCNA serves as a marker of proliferative cells and can indicate tumor proliferation status.
It is expressed in the nucleus, functions as a homotrimer, and acts as a cofactor of DNA polymerase delta to enhance leading strand synthesis.
Upon DNA damage, PCNA is ubiquitinated and participates in the RAD6-dependent DNA repair pathway.
Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified, and pseudogenes exist on chromosome 4 and the X chromosome.
