Target Information
PCNA (Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen) is essential for DNA replication and is involved in DNA excision and mismatch repair pathways.
It binds to CDK inhibitor p21, structure-specific endonucleases Fen1 and XPG, and DNA cytosine 5-methyltransferase (MCMT).
PCNA serves as a marker for proliferative cells and tumor tissue prognosis, marking cells in early G1 and S phases of the cell cycle.
It functions as a homotrimeric cofactor of DNA polymerase delta, enhancing processivity during DNA replication.
Upon DNA damage, PCNA is ubiquitinated and participates in the RAD6-dependent DNA repair pathway.
Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified, with pseudogenes on chromosome 4 and the X chromosome.
