Target Information
Isocitrate dehydrogenases catalyze the oxidative decarboxylation of isocitrate to 2-oxoglutarate. These enzymes belong to two distinct subclasses, one utilizing NAD(+) and the other NADP(+).
Five isocitrate dehydrogenases have been reported: three NAD(+)-dependent (mitochondrial) and two NADP(+)-dependent (one mitochondrial, one cytosolic).
The NADP(+)-dependent cytosolic isozyme encoded by this gene functions in cytoplasmic and peroxisomal NADPH production. It contains a PTS-1 peroxisomal targeting sequence and plays roles in intraperoxisomal reductions and NADPH regeneration.
