Target Information
WISP3 is a member of the WNT1 inducible signaling pathway (WISP) protein subfamily, belonging to the connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) family.
WNT1 proteins are cysteine-rich, glycosylated signaling molecules involved in diverse developmental processes.
CTGF family members share four conserved cysteine-rich domains:
- Insulin-like growth factor-binding domain
- von Willebrand factor type C module
- Thrombospondin domain
- C-terminal cystine knot-like domain
WISP3 is overexpressed in colon tumors and may act downstream of WNT1 in malignant transformation.
Mutations in WISP3 are associated with progressive pseudorheumatoid dysplasia, an autosomal recessive skeletal disorder, indicating its essential role in skeletal growth and cartilage homeostasis.
